Hans H. Maurer studied pharmacy and preclinical medicine at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken and Homburg. Since 1992, he has been full Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology at the Faculty of Medicine and at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Saarland University, and head of the Department of Experimental and Clinical Toxicology. His main two areas of research are analytical toxicology (low and high resolution mass spectrometry of drugs and metabolites) and in-vitro and in-vivo toxicokinetics. He has published extensively in both areas: over 250 peer-reviewed original papers, 30 reviews articles, and the Maurer/Pfleger/Weber, GC-MS handbooks and libraries as well as the new Maurer/Wissenbach/Weber LC-MSn drugs and metabolites library. He is editorial board member of over 10 international journals.
In his career, Prof. Maurer received several scientific awards: Young Investigator Award, Medical Faculty, Homburg 1983; IATDMCT Irving Sunshine Award for Outstanding Contributions to Clinical Toxicology, Vancouver 1997; TIAFT Alan Curry Lifetime Achievement Award, Melbourne 2003; Honorary Doctorate (Doctor honoris causa) of the Ghent University 2007. He was and is Executive Board member of various Toxicology Societies (e.g. IATDMCT President, TIAFT Councilor, GTFCh Treasurer), Dean of the Faculty Theoretical Medicine and Biosciences of his University 2012-4 and member of the expert committee for scheduling new drugs of abuse of the German Federal Government.
